The Glenturret welcomes new managing director Jennie Baernreuther

New Glenturret MD named as Jennie Baernreuther

The Glenturret distillery in Crieff has announced Jennie Baernreuther as its new managing director.

With over 20 years’ experience in the industry, Baernreuther joins the 261-year-old distillery from Speciality Drinks Group, which includes drinks businesses The Whisky Exchange, Speciality Drinks, Whisky.Auction and London Cocktail Week.

In her position of commercial director, she has been part of the leadership team driving the business transformation since it was acquired by drinks giant, Pernod Ricard in 2021.

Originally from the Scottish Borders, Braernreuther is a graduate in Psychology and Business Management from the University of Glasgow, gaining her MBA from the University of Birmingham in 2023.

The news comes shortly after the announcement that former MD John Laurie was stepping down from the role after eight years. Baernreuther will take the reins this month.

“I am thrilled to be joining The Glenturret as managing director, at this exciting stage of the journey,” she said of the next chapter in her career. “John and the team have done an amazing job of building the business and brand credentials, with Bob (Dalgarno) and Ian (Renwick) leading the charge on producing whiskies being recognised for their exceptional quality.

“Coupled with an incredible hospitality offering and the addition of Aberturret Estate House, The Glenturret has a unique proposition in the industry that I am confident will deliver strong future growth and prosperity.”

Of the transition, outgoing MD Laurie, said: “Managing The Glenturret over the last eight years has been an incredible privilege. Every part of the success achieved by The Glenturret over recent years should be attributed to the incredible team, their passion and dedication to this distillery. I am delighted to be handing the reins over to Jennie Baernreuther who is absolutely the right person to support this team to another chapter.”

Baernreuther’s appointment coincides with some exciting changes at the distillery: the launch of its first gin, The Aberturret Gin, as well as the completion of renovations to The Aberturret Estate House, an exclusive private-hire 19th century Dower house, formerly owned by the Murray Clan. The Glenturret Lalique Restaurant has also recently been awarded a second Michelin star, the first restaurant in Scotland in 18 years to receive this honour.
