Kirstie McCallum joins Whyte & Mackay
VETERAN SCOTCH BLENDER Kirstie McCallum HAS JOINED Whyte & Mackay AS ITS SECOND MASTER WHISKY MAKER.
With over 20 years’ experience working in the Scotch whisky industry, McCallum has previously worked as master blender for Distell International and most recently held the position of director of distilleries at Halewood.
A chemist by training, she has now joined fellow master whisky maker Gregg Glass to work on the brand’s portfolio of whiskies, which include The Dalmore, Jura, Fettercairn and Tamnavulin.
Speaking of her new role, McCallum said: “As a maker in the spirits industry, I am really looking forward to a renewed focus on whisky, working across a fantastic portfolio and a team focused on making incredible whisky - not only established names Gregg Glass, Margaret Nicol and Richard Paterson, but the newer members of the team, including Joe Ricketts – whisky maker for Jura – and Kirsty Hodge – whisky maker for Tamnavulin. I can’t wait to get started.”
Of McCallum’s appointment, Glass said: “As whisky makers we all share a real passion for all we do and make – from acorn to glass - which is why I am delighted to welcome Kirstie McCallum to Whyte and Mackay. Kirstie’s passion, experience and expertise adds a fresh dimension to the whisky making team.
“In the time since I joined we have enjoyed sustained growth across each of the five distilleries and the portfolio of whisky brands. Kirstie will make an important contribution to the next chapter of our whisky making.”
